Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly does DataAlpaca migrate?
DataAlpaca aims to migrate your photos, videos, album structures, descriptions, and available location data from Google Photos directly into your Synology Photos application.
Is my data secure during the migration?
Yes. The migration happens directly between Google's servers and your Synology NAS over secure connections (HTTPS). Your photos and data do not pass through any third-party servers, including ours.
Does it run directly on my Synology NAS?
Yes, DataAlpaca is designed as a native Synology package (.spk) that you install and run directly on your NAS device for maximum security and efficiency.
What happens if the migration is interrupted?
The application is designed to be resumable. If the migration is stopped or interrupted, it can typically pick up where it left off the next time it runs, avoiding duplicate transfers.
Will it use up my internet bandwidth?
Yes, migrating a large photo library will require significant bandwidth as data is downloaded from Google Photos to your NAS. We recommend running the initial migration during off-peak hours if bandwidth is a concern.
